Agricultural Integrity

Our Mission

Take care of the land and grow nutrient dense food for our family and yours.

Seed Selection

Lafevor Farm uses all NON-GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms). We grow from ancient and hybrid seed selections. For example, purple cauliflower and bi-color sweet corn. Commercial growers, gardeners, and hobbyists have been breeding new cultivars for centuries. Cross pollinating two different, but related plants over a span of 4-10 generations would result in a new plant variety.

Farm Practices

Lafevor Farm strives to practice farm integrity by utilizing crop rotation, compost, and cover crops. Crop rotation is beneficial to help prevent pests and diseases. The use of compost allows for the recycling of organic material to naturally fertilize the land. Finally, cover crops sustain the soil, improving soil health, and naturally replacing nitrogen. In combination, these three practices eliminate the need for chemical pesticides and herbicides.

Buy/Eat Local

Buying local promotes local wealth and jobs. Studies show that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 remained in the city compared to only $43 of each $100 at a chain retailer. Lafevor Farm sells at local farmers markets that are less than 100 miles away, most grocery stores consider produce coming from 500 miles away local. We reduce carbon inputs and maximize freshness to meet the goals of nutrition for our family and yours.

When grocery stores say they buy local, this only means they have a contract with “local” farmers. Most consumers don’t look to see if that is the actual product on the shelf. Produce loses at least 30% of its nutritional value in the first 3 days! Most food has not even made it out of the distribution warehouse in 3 days. Not only is the carbon imprint reduced by not importing produce from the other side of the country, but the nutritional value of the produce consumed is substantially better.
